This 21 yr old home was designed by Jorg Ostrowski of Autonomous Sustainable Housing for excellent passive solar heating in the winter.2 masonry wood heaters(one up one down) the units store heat in their mass and are meant to be burned hot. This makes them over 90% efficient. They burn clean so no creosote build up & no need to clean the chimney.Walls are R-55(14"deep) & use a truss wall system, all windows are triple glazed, infloor radiant heat in basement floor and baseboard heaters upstairs though the house can be heated by wood only if need be.Recycled rustic maple hardwood floors & cork flooring in basement.Split bathrooms downstairs were designed with a B&B in mind.Roof is heavy gauge steel with hidden fasteners.Solar hot water system provides about 70% of the hot water use and can be bypassed if desired. The barn has 2 box stalls, shop side of barn is heated, loft area could be converted to suite as power & water are present.Front deck and pad added 4yrs ago.Tons of potential for more elaborate design.
